Vladimir Ovchinnikov is the only pianist ever to win the top prizes at both the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow (1982, first prize not awarded, (he received a joint 2nd prize with Peter Donohoe) and the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition (1987).
