Nijinsky - dancer, clown, god (playlist)
World premiere in the Amsterdam Music Theatre; jun 15, 2010.
Vaslav Nijinsky (1889-1950), along with Rudolf Nureyev, was the greatest dancer of the twentieth century. The star of Diaghilev's Ballets Russes he was revered for his virtuosity, his unprecedented elevation and his exotic, sensual stage presence. Moreover for Les Ballets Russes he created three controversial but iconic works - L'Après-midi d'un faune, Jeux and Le Sacre du printemps which had, and continue to have, a far-reaching influence on the development of dance.

For his new full-length production Krzysztof Pastor, Dutch National Ballet Resident Choreographer, takes his inspiration from the 'God of the Dance', whose parents, like Pastor's, also came from Poland. Pastor has chosen to create an associative work drawing on the great dancer's roles, his ballets and the life of Nijinsky himself, who suffered from schizophrenia and who after giving up dancing spent thirty years in psychiatric hospitals. Pastor is setting Nijinsky to a collage of existing music brought together by the composer and arranger Bob Zimmerman.

À la Russe (playlist)
Three great Russian composers brought together into one ballet programme: Tchakovsky, Prokofiev, Strawinsky. Including the Duth première of On the Dnieper by choreographer Alexei Ratmansky.
